Live Stoically — it’s Always Better than the Alternative

Stoicism made it simple and accessible for a better living

Place zero hope that the work of others will benefit you.

Deny the belief that karma will repay you for all the good you are doing without meaning that you stop doing it.

Reject the story of a happy ending because every person deserves a happy ending.

Being late is the fault of over-optimism, not the clock or the traffic jam.

Accept that you must stop trusting that someone will discover you and give you the opportunity you always thought you would get.

Although it may sound unromantic and like a drama movie, try pouring fewer feelings into the beautiful relationship you have just started.

Play down as much importance as possible to the irrational behaviours that others project towards you or others around you.

Eradicate as quickly — and brilliantly — any expectations you generate, whether they involve idealistic love, a dream job, an unexpected promotion, a gesture of generosity, or a gift or reward earned. Amplify the expectations that the result of your own art is capable of causing.

You will need help fixing the problem. It won’t work as you expected. No one will lend their shoulder so you can cry. There will be no happy ending where everyone eats partridges; only a few will eat them.

Eliminate external illusions. It increases the internal ones.

Your team will abandon you. Friends will leave you alone in the face of danger.

It will all be over one day, and you could be alone.

Stoicism as part of the lifestyle

Thinking and acting oppositely in these situations is one of the main reasons human beings suffer and live submerged in a cloud that only shows projections of a surreal future.

I’m afraid that making it happen, whatever it is, is up to you alone. Until proven otherwise. Allow zero external factors and objects to disturb your soul.

Learn to show (yourself) strength and mastery over yourself, especially in the face of misfortunes, disappointments, frustrations and other difficulties.

Embrace stoicism; it is often better than the alternative.
